OARS athletes represent the United States at the World Championships
Coming off the past season with strong momentum, a few of our rising seniors took it to the next level, competing to represent the United States at the world championships.
Rising Senior Austin Lai was selected to attend the US Rowing Selection camp, to race against the best athletes in the country to attend the World Championships. Austin won a seat in the Men's 4x, and will be competing in Tokyo this year against the best in the world!
Rising Junior William Roesler and rising Senior Keelan Good trained through the month of June, and attended the Junior Pair Trials against the incumbents, the Junior National Team. The two boats were far ahead of the pack, and finished a nail-biter of 0.14 seconds behind the incumbents - lots to learn from this experience, as we head into our 2020 campaign.

Athletes representing the team at regattas through the country this summer
Rising Sophomore Lia Simmons and rising Senior Nicky Herrera-Ross represent our team at the inaugural US Rowing Olympic Development Camp in Sarasota, Florida and bring home numerous medals and multiple wins!
Rising Senior coxswain Luca Vieira represented OARS at the historic Penn Athletic Club based in Philadelphia.
Coming into the finals, Luca's Varsity 4+ was poised to be a top contender, after top finishes in the time trials and heats. Unfortunately, an oar broke during the final, and his boat finished a valiant 6th!
Graduation at Nationals
Sending Max off to Cornell this Fall
On the evening before Youth Nationals begins, we celebrate Max Kreutzelman's (Miramonte HS) graduation! Max will be rowing at Cornell University next year (the alma mater of our coach Kristen!)
We are so excited for Max - he has been a tremendous force for good on our team, and we are excited to see him continue his journey.

We've received four bids to Youth Nationals
The Oakland Athletic Rowing Society competed hard at the Southwest Junior Rowing Championships, in Folsom, California. At the end of a weekend filled with hard-fought races, we received four bids to Youth Nationals - the Men's Pair, Men's Single, Men's Double and the Men's Four.
We've chosen to send our Men's Youth 4+ and Men's Youth Double to the National Championships, taking place at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida. We will be training hard as we get ready to face off against the best teams in the country!
HEAD OF THE CHARLES
We head to Boston
The Oakland Athletic Rowing Society took a trip to Boston this Fall, to race at the Prestigious Head of the Charles regatta. Head of the Charles is the largest fall regatta in the world - bringing the rowing community together in a true festival of rowing.
This year, we were fortunate to get 2 bids to attend - a Men's Youth 8+ and a Women's Youth 2x. Our athletes trained out of the historic Harvard boathouse, and were inspired by the Northeastern and BU campuses
Our Men's 8+ started in 77th and ended up finishing 31st in challenging conditions, successfully securing a bid to return in 2019.
