Who is the 2 week trial for?
It's open to anyone in 8th to 12th grade, who is new to the club.
For anyeone who doesn't have experience: rowing is an amazing sport, but we also understand that it will be a new experience. In rowing, "Novices" are athletes in their first year of the sport. You can be novice anytime - as an 8th grader, or even as a senior looking for a sport. This is a great opportunity to try a new sport.
For anyone who's rowed before: what makes each team successful is different. With the free 2-week trial, you'll have the opportunity to get to know the coaching staff and the team, and to get a glimpse of the culture that has helped us achieve so much.
What will the trial be like?
For new rowers, we'll teach you everything you need to get started with this sport. You'll start off by watching a full practice of either our Novice or Varsity squad. Then we'll teach you the basics of getting on and off the water, and soon enough you'll be participating in our practices!
For rowers with experience, we'll show you what it's like to row for OARS, and give you an idea of our day to day, and also the culture that has been integral to our success so far. You'll jump right into the practices - and don't worry, the team and environment is incredibly welcoming! Read more about what it's like rowing for OARS here.
Where does the trial take place?
It's at our rowing facilities at Livingston Pier
